JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Nov. 5, 2012) – Below are a list of all the ETSU Athletic events taking place for the week of Nov. 5-Nov. 11
This week: The Bucs open their 2012-13 regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon when ETSU makes the trek up to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech. Tip is set for 2 p.m., inside Cassell Coliseum. The game can viewed online via ESPN3, while “Voice of the Bucs” Jay Sandos will have the call on WXSM-AM 640 The Extreme Sports Monster. Live audio will also be provided online through ETSUBucs.com and 640WXSM.com, while live stats can be accessed by visiting HokieSports.com.
Last week: ETSU defeated Carson-Newman, 71-63, in its lone exhibition game last Saturday evening inside the MSHA Athletic Center. Redshirt freshman forward Lester Wilson (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored a game-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting, while sophomore forward John Walton (Memphis, Tenn.) added a double-double by totaling 11 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Bucs outrebounded the Eagles by 11, 50-39, and scored 20 points off 20 forced turnovers.
This week: The ETSU women’s basketball team wraps up exhibition play on Monday night when the Lady Bucs host Young Harris inside the MSHA Athletic Center at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live for free on ASun.TV, with live stats and audio available on ETSUBucs.com. The Lady Bucs open the regular season Saturday in North Carolina, taking on Big South foe High Point. Tip is slated for 2 p.m., inside the Millis Center. Last week: The Lady Bucs opened the preseason with a bang on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bucs routed Carson-Newman, 82-52. Four ETSU players scored in double figures, with junior guard/forward Destiny Mitchell (Bluffton, Ga.) leading the way with 21 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists. Newcomers Serena Clark (Tucker, Ga.) and Brianna McQueen (Jonesboro, Ga.) combined for 28 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while Clark also ripped down nine rebounds and McQueen dished out four assists and forced a pair of steals. Overall, the Lady Bucs assisted on 19 of their 32 makes and forced 16 steals.
Men’s Cross Country
This week: Coming off their second-place finish at the Atlantic Sun Championship, the ETSU men’s cross country team heads to Tallahassee, Fla., for the NCAA South Regional. The Regional will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, from Apalachee Regional Park, with the men’s 10K run beginning at 9:15 a.m. Stay tuned to ETSUBucs.com for a full recap and results.

This week: The ETSU men’s golf team wraps up its fall season this week when the Bucs partake in the inaugural Warrior-Wave Intercollegiate, held at the Makai Golf Club at the St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai, Hawaii. Last week: The ETSU women’s golf team concluded its fall season with a second-place finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate last Monday from the Oak Point Golf Club, located in Kiawah Island, S.C. Freshman Vivienne Chin (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia) received Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week honors after placing second individually with a 1-over-par 217, while the Bucs as a team posted a team score of 887.
Men’s Soccer (9-6-3, 5-2-1 A-Sun)
This week: The Bucs head to Ft. Myers, Fla. for the 2012 Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship. The third-seeded Buccaneers take on sixth-seeded Jacksonville on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m., from the FGCU Soccer Complex. Live video will be streamed for free on ASun.TV, while live stats will be provided by visiting AtlanticSun.org. The winner will face No. 2 seed Mercer in the first semifinal game on Friday at 4 p.m. The A-Sun Championship will be contested Sunday afternoon.
Last week: ETSU wrapped up the regular season with a 1-all draw at USC Upstate on Saturday night at County University Soccer Stadium, earning the No. 3 seed in next week’s 2012 Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship. The Bucs infiltrated the Spartans’ defense for 24 shots, half coming on goal, but scored when USC Upstate headed a cross back into its own goal. Upstate responded with an equalizer in the 84th minute, and the two sides played two scoreless overtime periods to conclude each of their respective regular seasons with a draw.
This week: The Buccaneers conclude the fall season in Athens, Ga., at the Bulldog Scramble hosted by the University of Georgia. Play begins Friday and concludes with championships finals on Sunday. Day-by-day recaps will be available on ETSUBucs.com.
Last week: The ETSU men’s tennis team competed at the three-day Seahawk Fall Invitational in Wilmington, N.C., hosted by UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Complex. The round-robin tournament featured ETSU, UNCW, Davidson and Boston College, with each team facing one another in both singles and doubles play. When it was said and done, ETSU came out with singles and doubles victories against both Davidson and BC, but lost both singles and doubles to the host Seahawks.
This week: The ETSU women’s tennis team closes the books on the 2012 fall season in Ranch Woods, Fla., at the three-day Ditalie Invitational. Volleyball (19-10, 10-5 A-Sun)
This week: The ETSU volleyball team finishes up the regular season as the Bucs host Kennesaw State Tuesday night at 7 p.m., before heading to Jacksonville for a pair of weekend conference games in the River City. On Friday, the Bucs take on North Florida at 7 p.m., inside UNF Arena, while facing Jacksonville in the regular season finale Saturday. First serve with the Dolphins is set for 5 p.m., in Swisher Gym. Tuesday’s home game vs. Kennesaw State will be broadcast live on ASun.TV, as well as with Saturday’s contest at Jacksonville. Last week: The Bucs secured a spot in the A-Sun Tournament after picking up victories over Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson this past weekend inside Brooks Gym. On Friday night, the Blue and Gold snapped FGCU’s 15-game winning streak after battling back to defeat the Eagles in five (23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 15-7), while sweeping past Stetson (25-17, 25-20, 25-22) on Saturday. Sophomore middle blocker Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) enjoyed an outstanding weekend as she averaged 4.12 kills and 2.12 blocks per set, while junior Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) joined the 1,000-kill/1,000-dig club after registering her 1,000th career dig Saturday afternoon versus the Hatters. Hardy just missed generating a double-double against the Eagles as she ended with 20 kills and nine blocks (career high four solo blocks) and tallied 13 kills and eight blocks in the win over Stetson. Devine provided consecutive double-double efforts on the weekend, pushing her season total to a conference-best 20th of the year. On Saturday, senior Kayla Williams (El Paso, Texas) was honored with her Senior Day pregame celebration and she followed that up with 25 assists, four digs, and two blocks.
