JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 11, 2013) – The ETSU men’s soccer team carried a 1-0 lead into the final seven minutes of Friday night’s match; however, a late penalty kick sparked Florida Gulf Coast, allowing the Eagles to escape Johnson City with a narrow 2-1, overtime win.

ETSU outshot the Eagles (5-5-1, 3-0-0) by an 11-4 margin in the second half; however, FGCU’s Isaiah Madrid was able to convert a controversial penalty kick in the 84th minute to force the game into overtime.
Less than four minutes into the extra period, Xavier Silva played a ball past ETSU senior goalkeeper Ryan Coulter (Dublin, Ireland), giving FGCU its fifth consecutive win and outright possession of first place in the Atlantic Sun.
ETSU and FGCU entered Friday’s contest tied atop the conference standings.
