SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Sept. 23, 2014) - ETSU defender Jorge De Gyves (Queretaro, Mexico) has been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer player of the week for all competition from Sept. 15-21. The selection is made by the league office.
Making his first two career starts, De Gyves helped the Bucs to a pair of wins on the week, both over Conference USA teams.
In his first career start, the redshirt freshman from Queretaro, Mexico, helped ETSU to a 2-1 win over FIU on Sept. 16. On Saturday, De Gyves made his second career start and led the Bucs to a 2-1 win over South Carolina, scoring the golden goal in the fourth minute of overtime. The Gamecocks were ranked No. 17 nationally in the week prior to the contest.
ETSU (4-2-0) will face Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Also nominated: Sven Lissek (Furman), Travis Borkey (VMI) and Nestor Jaramillo (Wofford).
