MACON, Ga. (Nov. 1, 2014) - In its regular season finale, ETSU suffered a narrow, 1-0 setback at league-leading Mercer, setting the stage for next week's Southern Conference Men's Soccer Championship.
With the win, Mercer clinched the SoCon regular season title. The Bears (12-6, 8-2) have now won eight of their last 10 contests.
The Buccaneers (7-9-1, 3-6-1) contested Mercer tightly throughout Saturday night's match, with the Bears coming away with a narrow, 16-10 advantage on shot attempts; however, ETSU could not find the back of the net.
Senior Anthony Wojas (Auxerre, France) recorded five shots in the match.
Saturday's match marked Mercer's second win of the season over ETSU. The Bears won both matches by a 1-0 score.
ETSU entered Saturday's match locked in as the No. 5 seed in next week's SoCon Championship, and will take on UNCG in the quarterfinals Saturday, Nov. 8 at 7:00 p.m., in Greensboro, N.C.
