Men’s soccer achieves highest RPI ranking in program history

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 28, 2016) – Since the inception of the program in 2008, the ETSU men’s soccer team achieved its highest rating percentage index (RPI) as the Bucs ranked 35th in the latest poll announced Wednesday by the NCAA.

ETSU has played its toughest schedule in its history by facing No. 6 North Carolina, No. 9 Kentucky and No. 12 West Virginia (all RPI rankings). The Bucs achieved its previous highest ranking in 2010 at 38.

In the games played this season, ETSU’s average opponent RPI is 84 with three being in the top-15. The average Southern Conference RPI is 101 with five of the six men’s soccer teams being in the top-100. The Bucs received the highest ranking in the SoCon with the second highest, Mercer, coming in at 71.

In his third year as head coach, Bo Oshoniyi has led the Bucs to two of the three highest RPI rankings in the program’s history. Last year, the Bucs achieved an RPI ranking of 42nd, which was then the second highest in the program.

ETSU will continue its SoCon schedule on Saturday, Oct. 1 versus Mercer. Kickoff at Summers-Taylor Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
