ETSU picks up its second straight win over a Big South foe

CLINTON, S.C. (Sept. 16, 2023) – The ETSU men’s soccer team picked up its second straight victory over a Big South opponent on Saturday as it rallied to upend Presbyterian, 2-1. With the win, the Bucs improve to 3-3-1 on the 2023 campaign.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes, the scoring in Saturday’s match began in the first minute of the second half. A foul in the box by the Bucs gave PC a penalty shot. The Blue Hose would find the back of the net with this attempt to stake themselves to an 1-0 lead.

The Bucs, which outshot Presbyterian 8-3 in the match, kept battling though. ETSU would knot the score at 1-1 in the 80th minute when a cross by Tarik Pannholzer (Flensburg, Germany) led to a perfect header by Chris McKenna (Glasgow, Scotland) that beat the PC keeper. It was McKenna’s second straight match with a goal.

McKenna was not done sparking the Buc offense. A little over a minute a later, McKenna headed another ball over to Yves Tcheuyap (Oakville, Canada), who headed it past the goalkeeper for the eventual game-winner. That goal was not only the game-winner but it was also Tcheuyap’s first collegiate goal.

ETSU will be back home on Tuesday when it welcomes UNC Asheville to Summers-Taylor Stadium for a non-conference tilt. Kickoff for that match is set for 6 p.m.
