JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.-- The East Tennessee State University mens tennis team posted a 7-0 victory against the Wofford Terriers on Saturday afternoon.
By defeating the Terriers, the mens squad (3-4, 2-0 SoCon) won their 23rd straight Southern Conference regular season match.
ETSUs Gustavo Gomez defeated Brad Brendle 6-3, 6-1 at No.1 singles. At No. 2 singles, ETSUs Marcos Pavlovich took a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lee Porter. Buccaneer junior Roberto Fernandez captured a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brandon Smith. At No. 4 singles, ETSU sophomore Pablo Sahagun defeated Jason Mengel, 6-2, 6-0. ETSUs Juan Yannuzzi defeated Dial Burwell at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-4. In the final singles match, Buccaneer junior Antonio Bugge defeated Will Johnson, 6-2, 6-2.
ETSU claimed the doubles point after winning two of three doubles matches. ETSUs Gomez and Fernandez defeated Brendle and Porter, 8-2. Yannuzzi and Sahagun defeated Burwell and Johnson 8-5. Wofford won the final doubles match as Mengel and Smith defeated Pavlovich and David Poole, 9-8.
The ETSU men's tennis team returns to action on Sunday, March 11 at 11 a.m. as they travel to Georgia State University.
