JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (April 7, 2007) - The 56th ranked ETSU men's tennis team picked up their sixth straight victory as they dropped Alabama-Birmingham, 7-0 on Saturday. With the victory the Bucs improve to 19-4 on the season, while UAB falls to 11-6.
The Bucs took a 1-0 lead as they swept the doubles. In the No. 1 position, Travis Sandlant (Werribee, Australia) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) defeated Kruno Despotovski and Adrian Tollstam, 8-3, while Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) picked up their eighth straight victory as they breezed by Tim Bauer and Johannes Spangenberg, 8-1. In singles action, Olivares defeated Thomas Weiss, 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 1 position, while Predrag Burmazovic (
"I believe the guys played solid today in not the best conditions," said head coach Yaser Zaatini. "We started out well in doubles but in singles UAB gave us some close matches but because the guys were able to close it out. We're looking forward to our next match and hope to keep playing as solid as they have been."
