Serrano garners A-Sun Player of the Week honors

MACON, Ga. (March 27, 2007) - The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week award is made it's way back to ETSU as the Buccaneers' Sebastian Serrano is being honored for his 4-0 combined record against conference opponents this past week, league officials announced today.

 

The junior from Cartagena, Colombia, defeated Jacksonville's Victor Vaz (6-1, 6-3) and joined Enrique Olivares to earn an 8-1 doubles victory over the Dolphins. The two again paired to had Campbell's Artoym Starkov and Vasja Gorjup an 8-5 doubles loss, before Serrano dealt Starkov a 6-2, 6-0 singles loss.

 

Serrano currently owns a team high 24-7 overall record and is 12-2 in spring play. He also picked up his 60th career victory with his win over Campbell's Starkov.

 

The award is the first of its kind for Serrano, and marks the fourth time this season that a member of the ETSU men's tennis team has been honored as the POTW. The four POTW awards ties the A-Sun record as the most for one school in a single season. The 2006 Mercer squad was also honored four times during the season.

 

The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week is announced every Tuesday during the 2007 tennis season.

 

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
