Picardo nabs A-Sun Player of the Week honors

MACON, Ga. (January 23, 2007) - ETSU junior Lisandro Picardo has been named the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week, league officials announced today, after posting a 2-1 record in singles play and assisting his team to a 3-1 overall record during the first week of competition at the VCU 4x1 Invitational.

 

Picardo, a Sport Management major from Mar del Plata, Argentina, defeated East Carolina's Bryan Oakley and Temple's Gonzalo De Villa, both in straight sets. Both victories were team wins as well before Sebastian Deridder and No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth handed Picardo and the Bucs their first losses of the season. The ETSU junior defeated Oakley 6-2, 6-2 and took down De Villa 6-2, 6-3 before losing to VCU's Deridder. Picardo did not go down without a fight however, dropping the match 6-3, 7-6.

 

As the team's captain, Picardo has posted a 12-8 record overall, going 10-7 during fall tournament action.

 

The Atlantic Sun Player of the Week is announced every Tuesday during the 2007 tennis season.

The 12-member league headquartered in Macon, Ga., consists of Belmont, Campbell, ETSU, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville, Kennesaw State, Lipscomb, Mercer, UNF and Stetson with Florida Gulf Coast and USC Upstate beginning competition in 2007-08.
