Thursday, October 4, 2007

TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 4, 2007) - The ETSU tandem of Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) and Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) made history on Thursday as they defeated the No. 4 nationally ranked doubles team of Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala of Texas in the opening round of the ITA All-American Championships main draw.

Serrano and Olivares who swept through the qualifying action earlier in the week continued their run in Tulsa as they defeated Kutrovsky and Zavala, 8-5. Action will continue on Friday with the second and quarterfinal rounds being contested. Serrano and Olivares will face the winner of the match between the No. 17 duo of Nate Schnugg and Travis Helgeson of Georgia and the No. 36 team of Michael James and Adam Slagter of Penn State.

"Today's match was just unbelievable. It's obviously a historical day for ETSU tennis to beat a team of this caliber," said assistant coach Johan Dorfh. "I can't even begin to express how proud I am the guys. For them to make it through the qualifying rounds and for Sebastian to have gone through both the prequalifying and qualifying rounds of singles shows how tough they are. I can't wait for tomorrow to see what they can do in the next round."
