TULSA, Okla. (Sept. 30, 2007) - Senior Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) continued his impressive play at the Ralph Lauren ITA All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa as he won two more pre-qualifying rounds to advance to the qualifying draw on Sunday.
In his first match, Serrano dropped David Gonzales of Pacific, 6-2, 7-5.
"It was very windy during his first match and I think both players were struggling with the wind. Sebastian just played very solid and I was very happy with his performance under the tough conditions," said assistant coach Johan Dorfh.
In the qualifying match Serrano dismantled Ohio State's Balasz Novak, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the qualifying draw.
"His match this afternoon was great. It was his best performance so far. The wind let down this afternoon and it allowed him to play his game. Sebastian never really gave his opponent a chance to get in the match and I'm really excited to have him in the qualifying round," added Dorfh.
The qualifying draw will begin tomorrow where Serrano and Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) will represent the Bucs. Olivares will face No. 78 Denes Lukacs of Baylor in the opening round. Serrano's match has yet to be determined.
Also competing in the doubles qualifying draw Serrano and Olivares will team up to take on Kevin Dessauer and Jan Zelezny of LSU on Tuesday.
