ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 23, 2007) - Buccaneer tennis continued competition on Sunday at the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia as the duo of Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) advanced to the semifinal rounds of the Flight II doubles. Action will conclude Monday with the semifinal and championship rounds of doubles.
Senior Lisandro Picardo and sophomore Daniel Isaza took on Brandon Corace and Yoann Re of Virginia Tech on Sunday in the Round of 16 defeating them, 8-4 before breezing by Brian Dushock and Kelwin Dewet of Samford, 8-4 in the quarterfinals. They will face Tyler Hochwalt and Eric Corace of Florida in the semifinals on Monday.
"Danny and Lisandro played extremely solid today. They didn't make any mistakes and they just took care of business. They did what they had to do in order to advance to the semifinals," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.
Competing in the Flight I consolation singles, Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) wrapped up singles action as he cruised to victory over Yoann Re of Virginia Tech, 6-3, 6-1.
"Sebastian had a great win today and played extremely well. His opponent is projected to play in the three or four position at Virginia Tech and Sebastian was just able to overpower him. Sometimes when you win the first set it's easy to get distracted but he was able to stay focused and close it out pretty well," added Zaatini.
