JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 12, 2011) - The No. 75 ETSU men's tennis team earned its fourth straight victory as the Bucs rolled past Lipscomb 6-1 Saturday afternoon at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
With the win ETSU improves to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in A-Sun play, while the Bisons fall to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in league play.
After ETSU took the early point by winning all three doubles matches, the Bucs quickly stole all the momentum after getting a couple of quick victories. Only two of the six singles matches went to three sets.
With the 1-0 advantage in hand, sophomore Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) picked up a quick victory by knocking off Chad Pierron, 6-0, 6-2, at the No. 2 position. Freshman Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) earned his fifth straight singles victory by defeating Colby Shaw, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 6 position. At the No. 3 position, Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) continues to impress as he defeated David Salazar, 6-2, 6-3.
Jeremy Bonnevalle (Keerbergen, Belgium) defeated Miguel Cortez in a tough three set match, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0. Bonnevalle is now a perfect 6-0 during spring singles play.
Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium), playing in the No. 1 position for the Bucs, picked up a solid 6-4, 7-6 victory over Oliver Strecker.
The Bucs return to action on March 17 as they will take part in the San Diego / SDSU Shootout. The event begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday.
