JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 26, 2011) - After winning all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches, the ETSU men's tennis team defeated Stetson, 6-1, Saturday afternoon at the Buddy Hartsell Tennis Center.
With the win ETSU improves to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in A-Sun play, while the Hatters fall to 14-8 overall and 5-3 in league play. The Bucs have now won three straight matches and their last five A-Sun matches. ETSU remains tied atop the A-Sun standings with UNF and Campbell.
The match started with ETSU taking control of doubles play. The Bucs won each of the three matches to take the early 1-0 lead.
With the 1-0 advantage, freshman Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) picked up a quick victory by knocking off Chris Swanteson, 6-1, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.
The Bucs then got two quick victories from Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) and Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France). Bandres defeated Didrick Berg at the No. 3 position, 6-1, 6-3, while Bottoni knocked off Hans Adrian Riseng at the No. 5 position by the same score, clinching the victory for the Bucs.
The Bucs also got victories from Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) and Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay). Gille defeated Cesare Gallo, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot, while Ramirez got past Alexander Hackett, 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.
The Bucs return to action on Tuesday, March 29 as they travel to Buies Creek, N.C. for a conference showdown with Campbell. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
