ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 8, 2012) – Sophomore Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) highlighted play for the ETSU men’s tennis team once again on day two of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships, winning his third and fourth round matches and earning a spot in Sunday’s Division II quarterfinals.
Ribeiro began the day by defeating Chattanooga’s Chris Smith, 6-1, 6-2, moving on to the fourth round against Virginia Tech’s Trpimir Kujundzic. The Hokie gave Ribeiro a little scare in the first set, but the sophomore Brazilian ran away with the match, 6-3, 6-0, for the right to play in the quarters.
Another Hokie, Aaron Gomez, awaits Ribeiro on Sunday. First serve for that matchup is scheduled for 10 a.m.
Rain put a damper on most of the consolation and doubles matches, with the majority of them to resume on Sunday. Ribeiro was the only Buccaneer in action on day two.
