WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2012) – Sophomore Fernando Amon (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was ousted in the quarterfinals of the D1 Singles Flight on Saturday at the Wake Forest Invitational, but stayed alive in consolation play and will compete for fifth on Sunday.
Amon began the day dropping his quarterfinal to Richmond’s Aaron Wicker 6-3, 6-2, to fall into the fifth-place bracket. He then defeated Elon’s Dan Sablik 6-1, 6-3, earning the right to play another Spider, Will Welte, on Sunday.
Connor Knox (Bristol, Tenn.) started day two in the D2 Singles Flight back draw, defeated UNC Greensboro’s Jimmy Roueche 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 7-6 (7-4). The back draw semifinal did not favor Knox, as he fell to Elon’s Chris Geaslen 7-6 (7-0), 1-6, 6-2. Knox will play in the 11th-place match on Sunday against Furman’s Ben Horst.
Amon and Knox also continued doubles action, but dropped their C Doubles Flight back draw semifinal to Norfolk State’s Austin and Zymantovich 8-5. The ETSU duo will play in the 11th-place match in that flight on Sunday.
