Bucs go 4-2 against Eagles, fall in doubles to UNCW
WILMINGTON, N.C. (Nov. 4, 2012) – The ETSU men’s tennis team went 4-2 against Boston College in singles action, taking down the Eagles to highlight the final day of the Seahawk Fall Invitational, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Complex.
Sophomore Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) continued his impressive fall with a straight-set victory against BC’s Philip Nelson, 6-2, 6-2, while juniors Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) and Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) added to the day with wins at No. 3 and No. 4. Sophomore Connor Knox (Bristol, Tenn.) earned his first win of the tournament, defeating Kyle Childree in three sets, 6-4, 0-6, 6-4.
Doubles play was not as successful, as the Buccaneers were swept by the host Seahawks.
“I think we’ve got some pieces that are working hard and are committed, but others are struggling to find a way,” Director of ETSU Tennis Yaser Zaatini said. “It takes a lot of hard work in order to dig deep and discover yourself, and discover what needs to be done to find your way. I hate it for some of the guys who are completed committed. We should be able to at least step up and perform better individually.”
Next weekend, ETSU will put the fall season to a close in Athens, Ga., at the Bulldog Scramble hosted by UGA.
