BRISTOL, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2013) – The ETSU men’s tennis team saw its three match winning streak come to a halt on Saturday night inside the Bristol Racquet Club, falling to Nebraska, 4-2.

No. 74 ETSU (4-3) kicked off the home portion of its 2013 schedule Friday with a decisive, 4-0, shutout of 60th-ranked Georgia State, but could not put together the weekend sweep. Nebraska (5-3) defeated the Panthers earlier Saturday and used its momentum to down the Bucs on their home, indoor court.

“It was a tough match to see the guys lose because we fought hard,” Director of ETSU Tennis Yaser Zaatini said. "But the bottom line is we just didn’t take advantage of the opportunities. We turned around from doubles and had the momentum shift to us, but we couldn’t convert. When you let a tough team like Nebraska back in, it makes it very hard to win.”

Nebraska took two close doubles sets to score the first point of the match. Andre Stenger and Marc Herrmann downed senior Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) and sophomore Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), 8-7, in the No. 1 hole, while Dusty Boyer and Bradford Zitsch sealed the point with an, 8-6, win at No. 2 versus junior Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) and senior Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay).

Boyer put the Cornhuskers up 2-0, defeating Varon quickly at singles No. 3, 6-1, 6-2. ETSU responded by putting its first point of the day on the board as Ramirez took care of Eric Sock in the No. 4 match, 6-4, 6-4.

With the match, 2-1, in favor of the visitors, the top two singles contests came to a close with Herrmann defeating Ribeiro on court two, 6-4, 6-4 and Bandres earning another singles win in the top match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Sophomore Ricardo Pabon (Bogota, Columbia) led Andrew Dzulynsky at No. 6, 7-5, 5-2, but Tom Blackwell clinched the Cornhusker win, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 before Pabon could put the finishing touches on his match.

The Buccaneers will face the No. 6 team in the nation next Monday, Feb. 25, traveling to Athens, Ga., to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
