JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2013) – Both ETSU tennis teams will be in action this weekend, with four members of the men’s team competing in the 2013 ITA Men’s All-American Championships, the remainder of the men’s team competing in the UTC Fall Invite, and the unbeaten women’s team participating in the Wake Forest Invitational.

MEN’S TENNIS

David Biosca, Diego Nunez, Roger Ordeig, and Rogerio Ribeiro will represent the Buccaneers in this year’s ITA Men’s All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.

The four players will be competing in the pre-qualifying round Sept. 28-29.

“We’ve skipped a couple years going to the ITAs,” head men’s coach Yaser Zaatini said. “We have a super hard-working group coming up with terrific leadership from guys like Roger [Ordeig] and Rogerio [Ribeiro].”

Players with less collegiate experience like Biosca and Nunez will have the opportunity to play against some of the nation’s top players.

“It’s great for them to experience this early in their careers,” Zaatini said. “It is a tough tournament full of great players, so it will be a good measuring stick for us.”

The remainder of the men’s team will compete in Chattanooga, Tenn., as part of the UTC Fall Invite beginning Friday, Sept. 27.

WOMEN’S TENNIS

The ETSU women’s tennis is looking to capture its third tournament title in as many tries when it competes in the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., beginning Friday, Sept. 27.

Giulia Andreazza, Jessica Brumit, Lyn Yee Choo, and Anna Gerbasi will represent the women’s team in Winston-Salem.

“Wake Forest always has a strong tournament,” head women’s coach Travis Sandlant said. “With 13 teams from all over, it should be a great test for us to see where we are at this point in the year.”

The team is coming off back-to-back tournament wins in the Elon Fall Invitational and USC Upstate Fall Classic.
