Three Bucs advance to Round of 32 at Southern Intercollegiates

ATHENS, Ga. (Sept. 12, 2014) - To open fall competition, three ETSU players advanced to the Round of 32 in singles play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga.

ETSU's Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) defeated College of Charleston's Brice Allanic, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round of the Division I Singles flight.

Teammates David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) and Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico) also picked up first round wins.

Biosca knocked off Vanderbilt's Daniel Valent, 6-1, 6-2, while Nunez defeated Davidson's J.B. Gough, 6-4, 6-1.

Biosca and Nunez, who were each selected to the All-Atlantic Sun First Team as freshmen last season, were two of three Southern Conference players to be ranked in the ITA Preseason Singles Rankings.

Other ETSU players in action were sophomore Ismael Merino (Lima, Peru) and redshirt junior Ricardo Pabon (Bogota, Columbia), who each suffered first round setbacks in the Division II Singles flight.

Play at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships will resume tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 13.

Ribeiro will take on Jess Jones of Tennessee in the Round of 32 Saturday, while Nunez will play Armstrong's Fernando Bogoja. Biosca will go toe-to-toe with Aleks Vukic of Illinois.

Daniel Hernandez (Lipscomb) def. Ricardo Pabon (ETSU), 7-5, 6-1
