TULSA, Okla. (Sept. 30, 2014) - ETSU sophomore men's tennis players David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) and Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico) concluded play in the 2014 Saint Francis Health System ITA Men's All-American Championships Tuesday.
Biosca, who defeated No. 84 Tyler Lu of Yale in the opening round of qualifying play, was edged narrowly by Texas A&M's AJ Catanzariti, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, in the second round.
"Even though David [Biosca] lost today, he played a great match," ETSU assistant coach Ricky Rojas said.
Meanwhile, Nunez earned a hard-fought, three-set win over Minnesota's Mathieu Froment in the consolation bracket.
"We can take a lot of positives from the weekend," Rojas said. "I can see a lot of growth in both David and Diego [Nunez], and can see how we can make some strides going forward."
Biosca, Nunez, and the ETSU men's tennis team will continue fall competition this coming weekend. Part of the team will compete in the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., while the remainder of ETSU's players will take part in the UVa Fall Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.
