SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 24, 2015) – ETSU sophomore David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, for all matches played March 16-22.
Biosca helped the Bucs finish 2-1 last week as ETSU dropped a 9-0 decision to No. 5 Georgia before rallying to pick up SoCon victories over UNCG (6-1) and Wofford (4-1).
Playing No. 1 singles for the Bucs, Biosca dropped a three-set decision to Georgia’s Austin Smith, ranked No. 30 in the latest ITA rankings, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7. Biosca then came away with wins in league play, knocking off UNCG’s Randy Phillips (7-6, 2-6, 1-0 [5]) and Wofford’s Rob Galloway (7-5, 2-6, 7-6).
Biosca teamed with Rogerio Ribeiro, and ETSU’s top doubles team split its SoCon matches last week. Biosca and Ribeiro held off UNCG’s Phillips and Connor Thompson, 8-3, before dropping an 8-4 decision to Wofford’s Galloway and Walker Heffron.
ETSU’s men’s tennis team has won five of its last six matches and returns to the courts Friday when the Bucs host UNC Wilmington at noon.
