Ribeiro notches ETSU's second Player of the Week award in as many weeks
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 20, 2015) – ETSU co-captain Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for all matches played April 13-19.
Ribeiro was 4-0 in all competition last week as the Bucs earned a pair of conference wins over The Citadel (7-0) and Furman (4-0) to earn the league’s regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 record in conference play.
After playing the majority of the season at No. 2 singles, Ribeiro moved up to the top singles position and earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over The Citadel’s Artemie Ameri on Friday. The Sao Paolo, Brazil, native moved back to No. 2 singles on Saturday and came away with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Furman’s Matt Browne.
The team of Ribeiro and David Biosca competed at No. 1 doubles for the Bucs and earned a pair of wins last week. ETSU’s top team downed The Citadel’s Amari and Peter Bleach (8-3) before claiming an 8-7 (7-5) decision over Furman’s Browne and Ben Horst. Ribeiro and Biosca have now won six straight doubles matches together.
ETSU (14-7, 7-0 SoCon) will take on The Citadel Friday in the quarterfinals of the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championships.
Other top performers in the Southern Conference included Samford’s Fares Kilani and Chattanooga’s Lucas Plesky.
