Bucs drop a pair of close matches on day three of ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 5, 2015) – The East Tennessee State University men’s tennis team dropped a pair of close matches on the third day of the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The Bucs move to 7-6 in the event.

In the first match of the day, ETSU’s Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) dropped a three-set affair to Alfredo Perez of Florida, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2. In the other match of the day, David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) also dropped a three-set decision to Ohio State’s Matt Mendez: 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

“As a group we played strong,” said ETSU head coach Yaser Zaatini. “This field is lights out with the best players in the nation competing and have been right in every match. We have won our share of matches and have lost a few heartbreakers but we will have a resilient group so I believe we will be okay.”

With the results today, the Bucs have wrapped up their singles matches at the event but they will begin doubles play Tuesday. ETSU will have a pair of double teams in action in the form of Biosca and Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) as well as the duo of Herrera and Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico). The matchups for both duos are listed below.

Herrera/Nunez (ETSU) vs. William Albanese/Joham den Toom (Arkansas)
