JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 2, 2017) – In the final game of the home stand, ETSU men’s tennis will host former Atlantic Sun foe North Florida at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex on Friday.

About the Bucs

ETSU is coming off a heartbreaking loss to recently ranked No. 36 Georgia State. The Bucs are 2-4 on the year as they look for their second win of the season on their home court.

After a successful weekend two weeks ago, Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) was named the Southern Conference player of the week as he went 4-0 against UAB and Georgia State at home. Herrera did not suffer a loss against the Blazers and Panthers en route to his first SoCon player of the week honors this season. The junior is currently nationally ranked in doubles with Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico) at No. 59 and in singles at No. 69.

Doubles tandem Herrera and Nunez have been on a tear lately as they are winners of three straight matches. Playing solely out of the No. 1 slot, they are 4-2 on the year including going 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents.

Senior David Biosca (Sant Fruitos de Bage, Spain) has found a rhythm as he has won three straight singles and doubles matches. On his win streak, the Spain native has won two singles matches in straight sets.

Scouting the Ospreys

Just over a week ago, North Florida came in ranked nationally at No. 49. However since not playing a match in almost two weeks, the Ospreys fell out of the top-50.

This season North Florida is 5-5 on the year including a 3-4 mark in road matches. In the last three games, UNF is 2-1 including a 4-1 win at Troy and a 6-0 victory versus College of Charleston. North Florida has three impressive wins with all three coming on the road – St. John’s, Miami and LSU.

This season North Florida has played five ranked teams – No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 22 Tulane, No. 28 South Alabama, No. 30 Georgia State and No. 34 Tennessee.

In individual play, the Ospreys have a pair of players ranked in singles play and a doubles tandem ranked No. 3 in the nation. In doubles, Jack Findel-Hawkins and Lasse Muscheites are the highly ranked tandem. Findel-Hawkins has the highest singles rank on the team at No. 64, and Jefta Kecic is at No. 108 in the country.
