TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Jan. 21, 2018) – In their final match of their three match road stretch in Florida, the ETSU men’s tennis team picked up a 4-2 win over Florida Gulf Coast. The Bucs now improve to 2-1 on the season.
It was a battle in the doubles action as Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) and Tasei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) battled for a 7-6 win to help the Bucs earn the doubles point.
Florida Gulf Coast tied the match 1-1 after winning in the five spot, but Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) won 6-4, 6-2 over Mateo Ruiz to give ETSU the advantage again. After fighting for their third point, Herrera fell to Felipe Ramirez 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 and the match would be tied again. From there, ETSU won back-to-back sets to grab the win. Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) defeated Ezequiel Cerrini 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 and Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) won 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Oliver Landert.
Throughout the weekend, Este and Fontcuberta have gone 3-0 at the No. 3 doubles.
The Bucs return to action on Feb. 1, when they take on Marquette University.
