JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 28, 2018) – After playing their last five matches on the road, the ETSU men’s tennis team returns to Johnson City to host their next five matches. A busy week lies ahead for the Bucs, as they will host three matches this week at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. ETSU kicks off the week when they host Charlotte in a non-conference match on Thursday, followed by back-to-back conference matches against Wofford and Mercer.
About the Bucs
The Bucs are 8-6 and 3-0 in the SoCon, tied for first with the Mercer Bears. ETSU is 2-0 when playing at home. Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain) has had a tremendous first season with the Bucs, as he holds a 10-3 record. David Gonzalez (Barcelona Spain) and Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) each have nine wins on the season so far. Senior Robert Herrera (Barcelona, Spain) has been solid for the Bucs at the No. 1 spot, as he has a 7-5 record. The Bucs are 46-29 in singles and 22-16 in doubles. Fontcuberta and Herrera have been strong at the No. 2 doubles spot, as they have just one loss on the season with a 7-1 record. Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) and Tasei Miyamoto (Chiba, Japan) are 5-2 at the No. 1 doubles spot.

Charlotte enters Thursday’s match with a 9-11 overall record and a 1-2 record in Conference USA. The 49ers have lost their last three matches. The team has a 116-130 record in singles, using 12 different singles lineups. Benjamin Wayand and Oriol Puig Forne lead the 49ers with the most wins. In doubles, the 49ers have used 19 different doubles combinations, as they hold a 40-56 record as a team. Oriol Puig Forne and Alejandro Garcia Moreno hold the best record in doubles with an 8-5 record.

Wofford currently has a 9-4 record and are fourth in the SoCon with a 1-1 record. Kyle Barr will be the Terrier’s biggest threat, as he holds a 10-2 record in singles. Omar Williams, Lucas Cerbelli, and Parks Schoen each have eight wins on the season. As a team, the Terriers are 53-21 in doubles. Javi Cassosolas and Omar Williams have a 10-2 record in doubles to help their team to a 26-12 record in doubles.

Mercer comes into Sunday’s match with an 11-5 record and are also 3-0 in the SoCon, tied with the Bucs for first. The Bears are led by Fernando Guardia and Sam Philp, who each have ten wins on the season. The duos of Nicolas Guillon and Ruben Vanoppen hold an 8-3 record in doubles, while Sam Philp and Olivier Stuart have a 7-4 record. As a team, Mercer is 57-35 in singles and 24-15 in doubles.
