Stiegwardt signs three to 2018-19 roster

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 24, 2018) –  Head men’s tennis coach Martin Stiegwardt has announced the signing of Yusuf Khamis (Cairo, Egypt), Adam O’Shannessy (New South Wales, Australia), and Mark Papadopoulos (Sydney, Australia) to the 2018-19 roster on Tuesday afternoon.

Yusif Khamis spent his freshman season at Pepperdine University compiling a 5-7 record in singles and an 8-9 record in doubles.

He is originally from Cairo, Egypt and graduated from American City College in Cairo in 2017, while holding a UTR of 13.72. Khamis won the African Junior Championships for Egypt under 16 in Pretoria, South Africa, reached the finals of the African Junior Championships under 18 in Tunis, Tunisia and played and qualified for the Junior David Cup with his Egyptian teammates. He was the singles champion of the ITF G5 in Manama, Bahrain and the ITF G4 in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates and the singles and doubles champion of ITF G5 in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. Khamis was also a singles finalist at the ITF G5 in Hawaii, Kuwait and a semifinalist of ITF G2 in Cairo, Egypt. 

Throughout Khamis’ junior career, he has amassed a career-high ITF world junior ranking of 120. In singles, he accumulated a 40-24 junior’s career single and has picked up 19 wins in doubles matches.

Adam O’Shannessy was born on Feb. 3, 2000 in New South Wales, Australia. He was No. 1 in New South Wales in U14, U16, and U18s. He was a member of the 2017 All Schools Australian Team and qualified for the Wollongong Futures Main Draw in both 2015 and 2016.

Mark Papadopoulos was born on March 14, 2000 in Sydney, Australia. He competed at the All State Cup National Tennis Competition in 2017.

The ETSU men’s tennis team will began play this upcoming fall before defending their Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles in the spring.
