ETSU set to play two matches at Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa. (Jan. 24, 2019) – After a successful opening weekend against Appalachian State, the Bucs shift their attention to two matches this weekend in Iowa City, Iowa.

ETSU will take on Iowa on Friday, Jan. 25 at 7:00 p.m. (ET) and Butler on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 3:00 p.m. (ET).

About the Bucs

The Bucs are 1-0 after sweeping Appalachian State in the opening weekend of action. Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia), Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain), Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela), Yusuf Khamis (Cairo, Egypt), David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain), and Miguel Este (Caracas, Venezuela) all earned singles wins. Lugo also paired with Chris Mikrovas (Athens, Greece) in doubles as did Rengifo and Khamis.

About Iowa

Iowa enters Saturday’s match with a 2-0 record with wins over Western Michigan and Marquette. Kareem Allaf has both wins at the No. 1 singles spot as does Piotr Smietana at the No. 2 spot. Allaf is also 2-0 when paired with Jonas Larson at the No. 1 doubles spot.

About Butler

Butler is 1-1 after being swept by Louisville, but defeated Bellarmine 7-0 last weekend. The Bulldogs are led by captains Mason Dragos and Spencer Lang, who are two of six seniors on the squad. They also return BIG EAST Rookie of the Year Michael Dickson.
