ETSU readies for VCU and Old Dominion this weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 31, 2019) – The ETSU men’s tennis team continues their longest road stretch of the season when they play two matches in Virginia. ETSU will play at VCU on Friday, Feb. 1 at 2:00 p.m. and then will take on Old Dominion on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 11:00 a.m.

ETSU has a 2-1 record entering Friday’s match with wins over Appalachian State and Butler. Yusuf Khamis (Cairo, Egypt), Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) and Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) are currently undefeated in singles. Miguel Este (Caracas, Venezuela), Sergi Fontcuberta (Barcelona, Spain), and David Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain) all have a 2-1 record in singles. As a team, the Bucs hold a 15-3 record in singles and a 5-3 record in doubles.


VCU has already played six matches and have a 4-2 overall record. They started the season off hot winning four straight, but have been defeated by #2 Ohio State and Cornell in their last two matches. VCU only has two seniors and most of their roster consists of underclassmen.


Old Dominion is 2-2 overall and are currently undefeated at home. Jannik Giesse and Nicola Vidal each have three singles wins in four matches. Aziz Kijametovic and Francois Musitelli both have two wins, while Oliver Tobisch, Federico Rebecchini and Justin Herrera all have one singles win.
