Rengifo named SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Feb. 5, 2019) – Sophomore Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) was named the SoCon Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon. This is Rengifo’s first career honor.

Rengifo is currently the only undefeated Buccaneer, holding a 5-0 record in singles. He’s 1-0 at the No. 1 spot and 4-0 at the No. 2 spot. In singles action, he has come back to win three matches when falling behind in the first set. He had his fourth three-set match win over Francois Musitelli from Old Dominion, who was ranked 74th in the nation. Rengifo defeated Musitellig 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

The sophomore also has a 3-1 record in doubles when paired with Yusuf Khamis (Cairo, Egypt). The duo has won their last two matches and have a 2-1 record at the No. 2 spot and a 1-0 record at the No. 3 spot.

Rengifo and the rest of the Bucs have a week off until they return to action on Friday, Feb. 15 at Arizona. The match is set for 4:00 p.m.
