SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 10, 2020) – ETSU Men’s Tennis standout Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) laid claim to his second consecutive Southern Conference Player of the Week honor, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. Rengifo joins Mercer’s Olivier Stuart and Chattanooga’s Niklas Gerdes as repeat winners this season.
Rengifo aided the Bucs in another marquee win, defeating No. 46 Clemson for the first time in program history by the final score of 4-1 on Saturday, March 7 in Clemson, S.C. Despite dropping the doubles match, the Colombia native fought off the ACC foe to lift ETSU to its sixth consecutive win. Rengifo squared up against Teodor Giusca in the No. 2 singles slot, defeating the competitor 7-6(7-5) in the first set before fending off Giusca by the score of 6-4 in the second set. Rengifo’s victory was the match-clinching win, allowing the Bucs to jump above .500 for the first time this season, improving to 7-6 overall.
ETSU will host a pair of SoCon opponents this weekend, beginning with Mercer on Friday at 1 p.m. The Bucs will then square off with Wofford on Saturday at 2 p.m.
