(May 23, 2021) – Competing in his first NCAA Individual Men’s Tennis Championship, redshirt-freshman Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) went toe-to-toe with second-seeded Daniel Rodrigues of South Carolina. The two competitors squared off on the court at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday morning.


Badra Opens NCAA Singles Championship on Sunday

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 22, 2021) – ETSU redshirt-freshman and reigning Southern Conference Freshman/Player of the Year Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) will begin his participation in the 2021 NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championship on Sunday at 10 a.m. in Orlando, Fla. Badra will open up with a showdown against South Carolina’s Daniel Rodrigues who is ranked No. 2 in the latest ITA rankings. Badra, who is ranked No. 69, will square off with Rodrigues at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

Bucs Ousted in NCAA First Round

ATHENS, Ga. (May 8, 2021) – The 2020-21 season officially came to a close for the ETSU Men’s Tennis team in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament in Athens, Ga. The Bucs squared off against No. 11 Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex, falling in the opening round by the final score of 4-0. With the loss, the Bucs conclude the season at 13-8, while the Bulldogs improve to 15-6 and advance to the second round where they will face Texas Tech.

ATHENS, Ga. (May 7, 2021) – The wait is over. The Bucs have officially departed from Johnson City and are headed to Athens, Ga. for the opening round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship. The ETSU Men’s Tennis squad will kick off the festivities tomorrow at 1 p.m. as the Bucs take on 11th-ranked Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.


Badra Earns SoCon Automatic Bid into NCAA Singles Championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 4, 2021) – Just one day after learning that he and the rest of the Bucs will be heading to Georgia for the opening round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship, ETSU redshirt-freshman Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) received another invitation. The reigning Southern Conference Freshman/Player of the Year earned the SoCon’s automatic bid into the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Championship. The championship will run from May 23-28, while the team championship will take place May 17-22. Both championships will be played at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.

HOOVER, Ala. (April 24, 2021) – The Bucs are Southern Conference Champions for the third consecutive year! The ETSU Men’s Tennis team outlasted Furman in the tournament title match with a 4-2 win over the Paladins. This is the third consecutive SoCon Championship that ended with the Bucs handing the Paladins a 4-2 loss. With the win, ETSU improves to 13-7 on the season and earns the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

(April 23, 2021) – The 2021 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championship began with a Buccaneer win as ETSU handed Mercer a 4-2 loss in the semifinal match on Friday afternoon in Hoover, Ala. With the win, ETSU improves to 12-7 on the season, advancing to the SoCon title match for the third consecutive year.


Badra Claims Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 22, 2021) – In conjunction with the upcoming 2021 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament, the league office has announced the postseason awards on Thursday afternoon. The Bucs strong conference campaign was recognized on Thursday as the Bucs earned nine postseason accolades, highlighted by Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) who accomplished something only one other person had done in league history. Badra was tabbed the SoCon Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year, joining UNCG’s Orcun Seyrek (2009) as the only other player to do so.

Men’s Tennis Championship Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (April 19, 2021) – The Southern Conference announced the pairings and times for the 2021 Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Championship on Sunday afternoon. Rengifo Snatches Weekly Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 15, 2021) – For the first time this season, ETSU veteran star Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) was named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Rengifo finished with a perfect 6-0 record in singles and doubles matches combined, leading ETSU to an undefeated 3-0 mark during the week.

Southern Conference celebrates Founders’ Day

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Feb. 25 is perhaps the most important date in the history of the Southern Conference. On that particular Friday in 1921, the first day of the league’s groundbreaking basketball tournament, representatives from 14 of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s 30 members gathered in Atlanta, Georgia, to establish the Southern Intercollegiate College.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Southern Conference Commissioner Jim Schaus announced Tuesday the formation of a Racial Equity and Justice Task Force to counsel the league by identifying concepts and developing actionable items that can be used by all conference member schools regarding improving racial equity and social justice. The 15-member panel is composed of a racially diverse blend of student-athletes, coaches, campus administrators and athletics department staff members, with at least one representative from each of the league’s 10 full member schools.

Bucs to Compete in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (Oct. 1, 2020) – The ETSU Men’s Tennis team is set to compete in the 2020 Dale Short Shootout in Murfreesboro, Tenn., marking the 2020-21 season debut for the Bucs. The tournament will be played at the Adams Tennis Complex beginning on Friday, Oct. 1 and ending Sunday, Oct. 3.

Southern Conference postpones fall conference competition

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Aug. 13, 2020) – The Southern Conference Council of Presidents announced Thursday that the league will not have fall conference competition due to health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, allowing for nonconference contests if desired. It is the intention to move the fall sports’ regular-season competition and championships to the spring.

ITA Releases 2020 All-Academic Scholar Athletes

TEMPE, Ariz. (July 27, 2020) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its 2020 All-Academic Team and the scholar athletes. For the second consecutive season, the ETSU Men’s Tennis claimed a spot on the All-Academic Team, in addition to four Buccaneers being named ITA Scholar Athletes.
