WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (Feb. 6, 2021) – The ETSU Men’s Tennis squad aims to get its first win of the season on Sunday, Feb. 7 as the Bucs travel to Williamsburg, Va. for an 11 a.m. match with the Tribe of William & Mary.
About the Bucs
The Bucs will be competing for the first time since Sunday, Jan. 24 when ETSU fell to No. 25 Kentucky by the final of 5-2. ETSU was scheduled to take on VCU on Friday, Feb. 5, but the Rams postponed due to COVID-19 complications.
ETSU enters the match with William & Mary with an 0-2 record, aiming for the first win of the young season. The Bucs are being led by Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) who was recently named Southern Conference Player of the Week and Player of the Month. Badra is 1-1 in singles play this season and 2-0 in doubles action. Juan Sebastian Zabala (Guayaquil, Ecuador) picked up the other singles win for the Blue & Gold this season, doing so against the Wildcats.
Tell Me About the Tribe
Sunday’s match will be the season opener for William & Mary. The Tribe finished the 2020 season with a 7-4 overall mark before the spring sports were halted. George Davis and Brenden Volk return as the top singles winners from last year’s team, claiming seven singles matches apiece. Joseph Brailovsky anchored the team in the No. 1 slot for singles with a 6-5 mark.
The Tribe proved to be a very strong doubles team in 2020, posting a 22-9 record in 11 matches. Davis and Volk were a dominant force with a 7-3 overall record when paired together. Brailovsky and teammate Chen Ruo also tallied a 7-3 doubles mark when partnered.
