SPARTANBURG, S.C. (March 15, 2021) – For the first time this season, ETSU veteran star Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) was named the Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week. Rengifo finished with a perfect 6-0 record in singles and doubles matches combined, leading ETSU to an undefeated 3-0 mark during the week.
Rengifo put together a flawless week of tennis, beginning the week with a crucial win in a midweek clash against Radford. With the Bucs leading 3-2 in the home opener, Rengifo notched a thrilling three-set victory (6-2, 4-6, 7-6(4)) over Demis Taramonlis to clinch the match for the Blue & Gold.
Rengifo was back in action on Friday against SoCon foe, Wofford. The senior competitor clinched his second consecutive match for the Bucs as he strung together a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Callum Rendle to give ETSU the 4-0 advantage. The Bucs would go on to sweep the Terriers, 7-0.
Rengifo closed the week with another victory in doubles (6-0), followed by a 7-6(6), 6-4 triumph in the No. 2 singles slot on Sunday against Charlotte.
The Colombia native partnered up with teammate Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela) for all three doubles victories, winning 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0.
Rengifo and the Bucs will be back in action in a Georgia swing this weekend, beginning with Georgia State on Friday at noon in Atlanta, Ga. ETSU will then travel further south to Macon, Ga. to compete against Mercer at noon on Saturday, March 20.
