CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (April 1, 2021) – The ETSU Men’s Tennis team will compete in its final road Southern Conference tilt of the season as the Bucs travel to Chattanooga on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. match.
About the Bucs
ETSU (7-6, 4-0) is fresh off a 5-2 win over UNC Asheville on Tuesday at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex. The Bucs swept through doubles play and then took a 4-0 lead before dropping two of the final three matches to claim the 5-2 win.
ETSU is 38-40 in singles matches this year, including 18-6 in league action. The Bucs have seen consistent play out of Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) who is currently ranked No. 57 in the latest ITA rankings. Badra is 9-4 in singles play, including 6-2 in the top spot. Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) is second on the team in wins with a 7-6 overall mark, including 6-3 from the No. 2 spot.
The Bucs have also hit their stride in doubles play, running their record to 22-14, including 9-3 in SoCon action.
Meeting the Mocs
Chattanooga holds a 6-8 overall record, including 2-1 in league action. The Mocs most recently dropped a 6-1 decision to Furman on Sunday, March 28. Both of Chattanooga’s SoCon wins were 7-0 victories over The Citadel and Wofford.
Turner Voges and Kerim Hyatt anchor the team with nine wins apiece in dual play, with Voges holding a 9-3 record in the No. 2 spot and Hyatt boasting a 9-3 mark in the No. 3 position. Tomas Rodriguez competes at the No. 1 position, posting an 8-6 overall mark.
