Bucs Conclude First Fall Event

CARY/WILMINGTON, N.C. (Sept. 19, 2021) – The ETSU Men’s Tennis team concluded its first fall event of the season as the Bucs completed their participation in both the Duke Bonk Invite and the Seahawk Invitational. The Bucs sent four student-athletes to Cary, N.C. (Duke), while placing four more in Wilmington, N.C. (UNCW).

Badra and Gille to Compete in Davis Cup

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2021) – With the ETSU Men’s Tennis team gearing up for fall action this weekend, current Buccaneer Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) and former Buccaneer great Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) will be representing their countries in the Davis Cup.

ETSU to Split Squad at Duke and UNCW

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 16, 2021) – Fresh of their third consecutive Southern Conference title, the ETSU Men’s Tennis team will shake off the rust this weekend with a pair of fall tournaments in North Carolina. The Bucs will begin their 2021-22 campaign by sending four players to Cary, N.C. to take part in the Duke Bonk Invite, while putting four different competitors in the field at the UNCW Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. Both tournaments will run from Friday, Sept. 17 – Sunday, Sept. 19.

Gille Concludes U.S. Open Competition

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2021) – For the second consecutive year, former ETSU Buccaneer Sander Gille reached the quarterfinals at the coveted U.S. Open. This time, he did so in the mixed doubles field alongside partner Demi Schuurs (Netherlands).

Badra Ranked 53rd in Preseason Rankings

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 7, 2021) – The ITA Division I Men’s Tennis Singles Rankings are out and Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) finds himself ranked 53rd in the preseason rankings. This is the highest ranking for Badra in his career and is the highest singles ranking since David Biosca was ranked 49th on May 31, 2017.

Gille Set for U.S. Open Competition

ABINGDON, Va. (Aug. 16, 2021) -- ETSU Athletics, Food City and WJHL News Channel 11 are partnering to host the BUCS for Kids fundraising campaign in support of Niswonger Children’s Hospital. The event will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday August 21, 2021 at Food City locations in Johnson City (S. Roan St., N State of Franklin Rd, and Boones Creek), Jonesborough, and Gray.

Gille Falls in Opening Round of 2020 Olympics

TOKYO, Japan (July 24, 2021) – Former Buccaneer men’s tennis great Sander Gille had his Olympic appearance short in the first round of the men’s doubles at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics on Saturday morning. Gille was playing alongside Joran Vliegen, squaring off against Netherlands’ Wesley Koolhof and Jean-Julien Rojer who were seeded No. 8 in the bracket.

ETSU Lands 249 Student-Athletes on SoCon Honor Roll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (July 15, 2021) – For the second consecutive day, the ETSU Athletic Department received recognition for its student-athletes, with the Southern Conference Honor Roll being announced on Thursday afternoon. The Bucs placed 249 student-athletes on the 2020-21 list, just shy of the program record 262 selections last year.
