ITA Releases 2021 All-Academic Scholar Athletes

Five Buccaneers named to list

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 12, 2021) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) has announced its 2021 All-Academic Scholar Athletes. Five different Buccaneers were tabbed as ITA Scholar Athletes this season.

Individually, Miguel Este (Caracas, Venezuela), Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezeula), Juan Lugo (Maracay, Venezuela), Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Juan Sebastian Zabala (Guayaquil, Ecuador) were named Scholar Athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or above for the academic year. This is the fourth consecutive honor for Lugo, while marking the third distinguished honor for Este.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 2.) be listed on the institutional eligibility form.
