JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 4, 2022) – It was another dominating showing for the ETSU Men’s Tennis squad with a 7-0 win over Southern Conference foe, Wofford. With the win, ETSU improves to 7-4 (2-0 SoCon), while dropping the Terriers to 4-8 (0-1).
Make it eight consecutive matches with the doubles point belonging to ETSU, winning all three doubles battles. Frazier Rengifo (Cali, Colombia) and Juan Sebastian Zabala (Guayaquil, Ecuador) kicked things off with a 6-3 win in the No. 1 slot over Bryce Keim and Callum Rendle. Shortly after, Hugo Lobo (Toulon, France) and Juan Lombisano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) claimed the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph in the No. 3 slot. Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) and Juan Jose Vargas (North Santander, Colombia) polished off doubles play with a 6-3 win of their own.
Badra started singles play for ETSU with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win over Ashe Ray in the No. 1 slot, pushing the Buccaneer lead to 2-0. Rengifo extended the ETSU lead to 3-0 from the No. 3 slot with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Mark Endler. The match was clinched by Lobo from the No. 4 position with a 7-6(4), 6-1 victory over Alex Horn.
With the match in hand, ETSU claimed the final three singles matches to polish off the sweep over the Terriers.
ETSU is back in action tomorrow at UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. in Asheville, N.C.
