LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Oct. 17, 2022) – Over the weekend, the ETSU men’s tennis team competed in the Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Louisville, Ky. The team sent eight players to compete and earned a total of nine single wins and three doubles victories.
On Thursday, the duo of Adam Nagoudi (Tunis, Tunisia) and Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) won their doubles match 8-1 against their Ball State University opponents. However, the duo lost in the next round against a team from Vanderbilt.
In the doubles bracket, Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Peter Kalocsai (Hungray) also won their first doubles match, 8-5, against Butler University but lost in the next match.
Matching their teammates, Juan Lombisano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) also won their first-round matchup against opponents from Purdue, 8-5, before exiting in the next round.
On the singles side, Badra won his first matchup 6-2 and 6-3 against Omar Elshamahy from the University of Southern Indiana to advance to the next round. In his second-round matchup he defeated Heman Nama from Kentucky 6-1 and 6-2 to advance to the third round. In the third round, he defeated Patrick Fletchall from Indiana University 6-3 and 6-4 to advance to the round of 16. In the round of 16 he came out on top 7-5 and 6-3 against Francisco Rocha from Middle Tennessee State University to advance to the quarterfinals. In his final round he lost in three sets against Natan Rodrigues from the University of Louisville.
Joining his teammate in the quarterfinals, Pernas started his run with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in round one against Nicholas Adamec from Tennessee State University. In his second-round performance, Pernas came out on top after a three-set duel against JJ Mercer from the University of Kentucky. In the third round, Pernas dominated in a 6-0 and 6-1 two-set victory over Matt DeMarco from the University of Dayton to advance. In the round of 16, he had another strong performance defeating Nathan Cox from Vanderbilt University 6-0 and 6-2 to advance the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Pernas lost both sets by a score of 4-6 to Etienne Donnet from the University of Louisville.
The Bucs will be back in action at the Virginia Tech Invite in Lexington, Va. beginning on Friday October 28. The Invite will conclude that Sunday, October 30.
