Thiago Pernas goes 4-0 to win Draw A 

BIRMINGHMAM, Ala. (Nov. 7, 2022) – Over the weekend the ETSU men’s tennis team finished its fall competitions while earning 12 total wins at the CCB Collegiate Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.

Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) led the way for ETSU as he went 4-0 over the weekend to come out on top of Draw A.

In his first match, Pernas allowed the most points he would all weekend. Defeating Lachlan Brain from North Alabama in two sets, 6-1 and 7-5. In his second match, Pernas dominated, winning two sets by the score of 6-1 and 6-2 against Joao Ferreira from Alabama. On Saturday morning, Pernas won his third straight match in two sets by a score of 6-3 and 6-1 over Welsh Hotard from LSU. In his final match, Pernas defeated Mohammed Bellalouna from Samford 6-3 in both sets to come out on top of the singles draw A.

Over the weekend, Juan Lombisano (Buenos Aires, Argentina) earned an additional three wins for the squad going 3-1 in the singles B draw. Lombisano defeated Grant Landreth from Louisiana in two sets, 6-2 and 6-4, to earn his round one victory. In his second match, Lombisano lost his first set but would comeback in the next two (6-3,6-2) to earn the win over Benji Jacobson from Tulane. After losing his third match by the score of 1-6 and 7-5, Lombisano earned his third win over Juan Accossatto from South Alabama, 6-0 and 7-6, in a two-set contest.

Going 2-2 over the weekend, freshman Lucas Britez (Paraguay) earned his first victory in two sets, 6-3 and 6-4 over Will Cubitt from LSU. He would go on to drop his next two matches and four out of the next five sets. In his final singles match, Britez battled his way to a 6-1,3-6,1-0(7) three-set victory over Martin Schwartzman from Samford.

Earning the Bucs’ final two singles wins was Pedro Cressoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) who finished the weekend going 2-2. After dropping his first match in three sets, Cressoni won his second match in two sets by the score of 6-2 over Sandeep Mohandoss from Samford. On Saturday morning, Cressoni defeated William Ribero from Louisiana, 7-5 and 6-2, in two sets.
