ETSU Junior finishes weekend 3-0  

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Jan. 17, 2023) – As the opening week of men’s tennis concluded, junior Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was named the Southern conference men’s tennis player of the week on Tuesday afternoon by the league office.

Earning the award for his first time, Pernas went a perfect 3-0 in completed matches he over the weekend, going 1-0 in singles matches and 2-0 in his two doubles matches.

On Saturday, Pernas earned a top-flight win in his three-set match victory over Nemanja Malesevic from Mississippi State with scores of 6-2, 3-6 and 10-4. To cap off his day, Pernas and Peter Kalocsai (Hungary) defeated the duo of Ewen Lumsden/Michal Novansky from Mississippi State by a score of 4-3 before the doubles point was clinched.

On Sunday, Pernas and Kalocsai knocked off the ITA’s No.16 duo Jack Clements/Louis Delcour from South Alabama by the score of 6-4.

ETSU will be back in action as they hit the road on Saturday, Jan. 21 to take on Clemson at noon.
