Bucs open conference play Sunday versus Samford 

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2023) – The ETSU men’s tennis team will play their home opener Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Troy. On Sunday, the Bucs will open conference play as they host Samford at 1 p.m. Playing at home for the first time in nearly 10 months, the Bucs look to end a seven-game skid over the weekend.

ABOUT THE BUCS

• The Bucs own an 0-8 record entering the weekend, playing all matches away from home.
• As a team, the Bucs are 7-38 in singles competitions and 5-16 in doubles matches.
• The Bucs will play their first home match in 10 months and will begin their conference title defense, on Sunday.
• The pairing of Peter Kalocsai (Hungary) and Thiago Pernas (Buenos, Aires, Argentina) are 3-1 in doubles matches.

ABOUT TROY

• Troy is 9-1, on a nine-match win streak after losing its opener 4-0, against Miami.
• Friday will be only the second game Troy competes away from home.
• Marlo Martinez is a combined 17-4 this year, going 9-1 in dual matches.

ABOUT SAMFORD

• Samford is 4-4 entering the match, winning the previous three matches.
• Samford is 20-28 overall in singles competitions and 9-11 in doubles matches.
• The last time the two teams met, ETSU earned a 4-0 victory in the 2022 SoCon Championship.
