JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2023) – The ETSU men’s tennis team continued to roll.
The Buccaneers made it three straight wins after cruising past UNC Asheville, 5-2, on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at the Dave Mullins Tennis Complex.
ETSU, who opened the season with eight straight road matches, moved its record to 3-8 overall. The Bucs remained unbeaten at home after improving to 3-0 in Johnson City. With the loss, UNC Ashville – who was coming off a 4-3 win over Wofford last Thursday – dipped to 5-4.
The Blue & Gold opened the afternoon with a dominating showing in doubles. The doubles pair of Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) and Adam Nagoudi (Tunis, Tunisia) eased their way to their second win of the season as they earned a 6-1 victory over Rafa Serra/Jon Brann Reid. The Bucs closed out the doubles point when Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) and Pedro Cressoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) battled their way to a 6-4 victory over Sam Nicholson/Chester Wickwire.
As they moved to singles play, Badra and Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) both earned straight set victories, moving the Bucs to a 3-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Badra defeated Jon Brann Reid, 7-5, 6-3, while Pernas fought his way to a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
With ETSU having a firm grip on the match, Nagoudi and James Sim (New Zealand) registered the final points for the Bucs. Both players earned their first victory in singles this season.
