JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (May 19, 2023) – The Spring 2023 semester was another successful one for ETSU student-athletes both on the field of play and in the classroom.
ETSU student-athletes combined for a 3.273 GPA this semester — higher than the general campus GPA average. The Buccaneer student-athletes also posted a collective 3.316 cumulative GPA to surpass last year’s total of 3.15.
Individually, 40 Buccaneer student-athletes representing 13 programs posted a 4.0 GPA this semester.
“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes for their academic achievements in both the Fall and Spring semesters,” said Associate Athletics Director for Academic Support Services Dr. Jessica Thomas. “I set my expectations high for this semester during our beginning of the year team meetings in January. Our student-athletes rose to the occasion with their improvements over the Fall semester, which is a testament to their resiliency and commitment to excellence every day in every area. ‘Job well done’ to our student-athletes! Let's continue to raise the bar.”
ETSU also celebrated 178 student-athletes on the Dean’s List with a 3.5 GPA or higher, while 81 more we’re lauded on the Honor Roll with a GPA between 3.0-3.49. Overall, 259 Buccaneer student-athletes recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Fifteen ETSU programs posted a team GPA of 3.0 or higher, led by the championship-winning women’s tennis program with a 3.929 GPA. Men’s soccer led the male sports with a combined 3.585 GPA.
Six other programs joined women’s tennis and men’s soccer with marks of 3.5 or higher, including volleyball (3.731), women’s soccer (3.659), women’s cross country (3.591), men’s tennis (3.574), women’s golf (3.517) and women’s triathlon (3.508).
