Johnson City, Tenn. (February 2, 2002)- The East Tennessee State University men's track and field team competed in the Rod McCravy Memorial Track and Field Meet in Lexington, Ky., hosted by the University of Kentucky.
The ETSU women ran well in this meet with three finishing in the top-10 of the 400m dash. Senior Jennifer Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) led way finishing in fourth place with a time of 57.35 seconds. Uloma Nwagbara (Lilburn, Ga.) finished just behind Howard with a 57.63 seconds, earning fifth position and beat her previous personal best by .26 seconds. In sixth place, Ashley Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.) finished in 57.97 seconds. Junior Roseline Addo (Newbury, England) ran the 800m in 2:11.92 to finish in third place. Natasha Peyton (Chesterfield, Va.) ran the 60m in 8.05 seconds, which bettered her previous best time by .07 seconds. In field events, Nwagbara jumped 17' 3.25" to place fifth in the long jump.
The men also had athletes finish in the top-10 of several events. Freshmen Brad Yewer (Newbury, England) finished the 1-mile run in 4:17.87 to earn seventh place and set a new personal best by over 14 seconds. In the 3,000m run, freshman James Grufferty took fifth place with a time of 8:37.54. Yewer ran an 8:40.51 to come in tenth spot. In the shot put, Josh Artau (Hatboro, Pa.) threw for 51' 9" to earn an eighth-place finish. Artau's throw beat his previous best of 51' 9".
The ETSU track and field teams will compete next at the Iowa State Invitational on Feb. 8-9, 2002.
