KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (May 3, 2003) - East Tennessee State University's Kim Simmons (Knoxville, Tenn.) won the women's 400 meters, Saturday afternoon, in front of her home crowd in Knoxville as the Buccaneers participated in the 2003 Gatorade Classic.
The junior from Knoxville finished the race with a time of 1:01.98, almost four seconds faster than Christina Billings from Tennessee (1:05.72.). The Buccaneers also had three second place finishes. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, Buccaneer sophomore David Cabbler (Roanoke, Va.) placed second with a time of 53.44. In the men's 800-meter race, ETSU's Brad Yewer (Newbury, England) took home a second place finish, finishing with a time of 1:54.86. Junior, David Haefner (Hamburg, N.Y.), placed second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while teammate Tiffany Collier (Atlanta, Ga.) placed fourth in the women's 800-meters.
The Buccaneers will next travel to Atlanta to participate in a meet hosted by Georgia Tech May 16 -17.
