MACON, Ga. (March 29, 2006) - Senior James Rainer (Alcoa, Tenn.) has been named Atlantic Sun Track and Field Athlete of the Week, announced by conference offices on Wednesday.  The award comes after Rainer claimed the 100-meter title at Raleigh Relays last weekend.

Rainer, who won A-Sun titles in the 60- and 200-meters this past indoor season, sailed to victory in the 100, clocking a season-best time of 10.52 in his first outdoor appearance this spring.  The time was just short of the NCAA Regional Qualifying standard of 10.50.  The senior came out on top of a field of 77 athletes, proving he was the one to beat early on, as he posted a time of 10.59 in the preliminary heats, the top qualifying mark in the event.

The award is the second of the year for Rainer, who also garnered A-Sun Athlete of the Week honors during indoor season.

Rainer and the rest of the Bucs have a busy week on tap, with portions of the squad competing at the Walker Invitational, this afternoon at Liberty Bell, as well as the Liberty and Western Carolina Invitationals on Saturday.
