Track & Field completes competition at Rod McCravy and Mountaineer Open

Lexington, Ky. and Boone, N.C. (1/28/2006) - The ETSU track & field team completed competition at two different weekend track meets on Saturday afternoon, with its jumpers and distance runners turning in solid performances at the Rod McCravy Memorial Track Meet in Lexington, Ky. and it throwers and pole vaulters competing at the Mountaineer Winter Open in Boone, N.C.

 

The Bucs posted four top-10 finishes at the Rod McCravy, as both high jumpers, Anna Marie Ricciardi (Canfield, Ohio) and Shane Estes (Maryville, Tenn.), finished in the top-five.  Ricciardi finshed tied for third after jumping 1.68 meters (5-6), and Estes tied for fourth with a jump of 1.97 meters (6-5.5).  In distance events, sophomore Jordan Ladd (Lyn, Ontario) was the Bucs top finisher in the 3,000 meters, finishing ninth in 8:47.27).  Junior Josh Hicks (Riceville, Tenn.) crossed the finish line in the 800-meters in 1:55.70 for a seventh place finish.  Sophomore Jeff Crane (Taylors, S.C.) ran the mile in 4:27,94 for a 15th place finish.

 

At the Mountaineer Winter Open the Bucs scored eight top-10 finishes in the 11 events they entered.  Sophomore Mike Wright (Chattanooga, Tenn.) finished seventh in the long jump after leaping 6.80 meters (22-3.75).  Freshman Justin White (Athens, Tenn.) finished a Buc best fifth place in the shot put throwing 12.51 meters (41-0.50).  Daniel Williams (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Rebecca Cole (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished third and fourth, respectively on the men's and women's sides in the pole vault with Williams hitting a 4.42 meter vault (14-6) and Cole vaulting 3.20 meters (10-6).  Tashauna Robinson (Trelowny, Jamaica) tallied two top-10 finishes, placing fourth in the long jump (5.35 meters/17-6.75) and seventh in the triple jump (10.76 meters/35-3.75).  Antoinette Smith (Lynchburg, Va.) rounded out the Buccaneer day with two top-10 finishes of her own.  Smith placed eighth in the weight throw (12.07 meters/39-7.25) and 10th in the shot put (10.64 meters/34-11).

 

The Buccaneers are back in action February 4th at the Liberty Record Bash in Lynchburg, Va.
